Tafsiri privacy policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Tafsiri is a free Chrome extension that shows live translated subtitles for online meetings. It is made by Timothy Mwangi. This policy explains what it does with your information. In short: everything stays on your computer.
What Tafsiri handles
When you turn translation on, Tafsiri listens to the sound of the meeting tab you chose (or reads the meeting's on-screen captions, if you pick that option). It turns the speech into text and translates it on your computer, using the speech, language and translation features built into Chrome. It only does this for the tab you started it on, and only while translation is on.
What is stored
Only your settings: the languages you picked, the text size, where the window sits, and whether you closed Tafsiri on a site. They are kept in Chrome's local storage on your computer.
Transcripts and translations are not saved. They exist only in the open Tafsiri window and are gone when you close the tab or press Clear. The Copy button puts them on your clipboard only when you press it.
What is sent anywhere
Nothing. Tafsiri has no server, no account, no analytics and no ads, and it does not send the meeting's sound, words or translations to anyone.
The first time you use a language, Chrome itself may download its translation or AI model from Google. That is Chrome's own download, covered by Google's privacy policy.
Sharing and selling
Tafsiri does not share or sell any data, because it does not collect any.
Deleting your data
Press Clear to empty the window. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes its settings.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
